history of thumann's 

Founder Henry Thumann was raised on a working farm in Germany. As a result, farm - fresh taste was naturally instilled within him. It was these European traditions and treasured recipes he brought with him when he came to America at the eager age of 17 to live the American dream. Within a few years he went from being a butcher's apprentice to a master butcher. With his new found knowledge of spices, meat curing, and creating recipes from scratch he made Thumann's famous family recipes. He realized early on when complimentary spices were blended properly, add ons like  fillers, MSG, gluten, artificial flavors, coloring and large amounts of salt were not necessary to create superior quality meat cuts.

Several years later in 1949, Thumann devoted himself to bring "The Deli Best" to people and opened the 1st Thumann's plant in Wallington, New Jersey with a handful of employees.

Today Thumann's operates from Carlstadt, New Jersey and distributes all over the United States. The plant is powered by solar panels. Superior quality meats are available from coast to coast, only at the finest supermarkets and gourmet delis. It has become one of the largest, most modern and environmentally conscious meat processing facilities in the east. Three generations later, the company is still the family owned and operated company that Henry Thumann founded in 1949. Till date, Thumann's continues to use Henry Thumann's family recipes and methods - carrying on his legacy.
